Terms of service
Last updated 3 November 2026
1. About these terms
ShotBox3D is software for photographers to plan studio lighting in 3D. It is provided by HRLytic Private Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (“we”, “us”). These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use ShotBox3D. Please read them with our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your information.
By creating an account or using ShotBox3D, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- Give a real email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- If you use ShotBox3D for a business, you confirm you can accept these terms for it.
- Tell us straight away at hello@shotbox3d.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. Plans and payment
Free plan
The free plan costs nothing and has the limits shown on the pricing page.
Pro plan
- Pro is a yearly subscription, paid in advance at the price shown when you buy it.
- It renews automatically each year on the same date until you cancel. Stripe can send you a reminder before each renewal.
- You can cancel at any time from your account page. Pro then stays on until the end of the year you've paid for, and your account moves to the free plan after that.
- If we change the Pro price, we'll email you at least 30 days before your next renewal. The new price only applies from that renewal, and you can cancel before it.
Extra storage packs
- A storage pack is a one-off payment for extra space for 12 months from the date you buy it.
- It does not renew and you won't be charged again. We email you two weeks before it ends. If you renew it, the new 12 months start when the old pack ends.
Paying
- Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- For some purchases Stripe acts as the reseller (the “merchant of record”). In that case, your purchase is from Stripe, Stripe's terms for it also apply, and its name may appear on your statement and receipt.
- Prices include VAT or other sales tax where it applies. Your invoice shows the tax charged.
- If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will try again. If it still fails, Pro ends and your account moves to the free plan.
4. Cancelling and refunds
- 14-day right to cancel: if you're a consumer in the UK or EU, you can cancel a purchase within 14 days for any reason. Pro and storage packs start straight away, at your request. So if you cancel within the 14 days, we'll refund what you paid, minus a fair amount for the time you've already had. To cancel, email us at hello@shotbox3d.com from your account's email address.
- After 14 days, payments aren't refunded, including for the unused part of a year. Cancelling Pro stops the next renewal.
- Your legal rights: nothing here affects your legal rights, for example if the service is faulty or not as described.
5. Storage
Each plan comes with a storage allowance. Uploads count at their real size, and saved designs by what's in them. Storage packs add to it while they last.
If you go over your allowance, for example after Pro or a pack ends, we don't delete anything. You can still open, edit and trim your projects and delete files. You can't add uploads or make projects bigger until you're back within your allowance.
We take backups and look after your data carefully, but please keep your own copies of anything important. ShotBox3Dis a planning tool, not a backup service.
6. Your content
- Ownership: you keep all rights to what you create and upload: projects, images, 3D models and the photos you render. Renders made with the studio are yours to use, including commercially.
- What you allow us to do: you let us store, copy and process your content only as needed to run ShotBox3D for you, for example saving it, showing it to you, converting 3D models and making backups. This permission ends when you delete the content, apart from backups, which expire on their own schedule (see the privacy policy).
- Privacy: uploads are private to your account. We don't share, publish or sell them, and we don't look at them, except:
- when you ask us to help with a problem;
- to investigate a report that breaks the rules below;
- when the law requires it.
7. Rules for using ShotBox3D
You agree not to use ShotBox3D to:
- break the law, or upload anything you don't have the right to use;
- upload an image or 3D model of a real person without their consent. Every upload of a person needs your confirmation that they are 18 or older and agreed to it being stored for planning the shoot;
- upload any nude, sexual or sexualised image or model of anyone under 18. We remove such material at once, close the account, and report it to the police and the relevant authorities;
- store or make sexually explicit content or pornography, or anything sold or shared as adult content;
- harass, threaten or exploit anyone, including with intimate images shared without consent;
- try to get into other people's accounts or files, get around plan limits or payments, overload or attack the service, or copy, scrape or reverse-engineer it;
- upload malware or files designed to harm others.
Nude and implied-nude references are allowed only as private planning references, for a consensual shoot with adults, and must be marked as sensitive so they stay blurred until you choose to show them.
Reporting: if you think content breaks these rules, including content of you uploaded without your consent, email hello@shotbox3d.com. We'll look into it promptly.
8. Suspending or closing accounts
- We may remove content, or suspend or close an account, if it breaks these terms or the law, or puts other people or the service at risk. Where it's safe and lawful, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
- If we close a paid account for a serious breach, we don't refund the rest of the year. If we close it for any other reason, we refund the unused part.
- You can stop using ShotBox3D at any time. To delete your account and everything in it, email hello@shotbox3d.com from your account's email address.
9. Built-in content
The built-in people, clothing, gear, backdrops and sets are for use inside ShotBox3D. Some 3D assets are based on open-licensed work by others, used under those licences. You may use renders that include them, but not extract the assets themselves to use elsewhere.
10. Changes and availability
- We keep improving ShotBox3D, so features may change. If a change takes away something important you've paid for, you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part.
- We aim to keep ShotBox3D running all the time, but it may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
- If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change applies. If you keep using ShotBox3D after that, the new terms apply.
11. Our responsibility to you
- What we never limit: our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
- If you're a consumer: we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for business losses.
- If you use ShotBox3D for business: we aren't liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or data, or for indirect losses. Our total liability in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in those 12 months.
- It's a simulation: ShotBox3D shows how lighting is likely to look. Real cameras, lights and rooms vary, so check results on the day.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts can hear disputes. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If you live in the EU, you keep the protection of your country's consumer law. Please contact us first: most problems can be sorted out quickly by email.
